Lobby group Generation Zero has released a report slamming the Auckland bus network for being so unreliable.
The group this morning released data drawn from its Better Buses campaign, bringing together more than 1300 complaints.
Of those, 582 people criticised buses for being late, 423 said they were notoriously overcrowded and 233 said buses never turn up.
Auckland spokesperson for Generation Zero Leroy Beckett says the data shows Auckland's bus network is flawed.
"Something has to change if public transport is to be a viable alternative."
Routes passing through Mt Eden Rd generated the most complaints, with almost 250.
The report also proposes some fixes, which Generation Zero hopes Auckland Transport will take on. These include double-decker buses at peak times, a higher frequency of buses throughout the day (including peak times), and the construction of more bus lanes.
Mr Beckett says if Auckland is going to be a truly liveable, low-carbon city, "the bus system has to change, and quickly".
