Police have been left red-faced in the central North Island town of Turangi after inadvertently treating locals to a free high.
They were burning off a haul of illegal marijuana at the station on Friday, not realising the smoke was blanketing a nearby supermarket.
Local man Adam Green couldn't believe his eyes as he filmed what was happening.
"Turangi's police are doing what looks to be a controlled cannabis burn and smoke coming out of the chimney is wafting over straight into the New World car park.
The car park quickly filled up with people keen to get amongst the action.
Police have since apologised for their mistake.
