An 18-year-old man has died at the Kitekite Falls in the Waitakere Ranges near Piha this afternoon, police say they are recovering the body.
The man was one of three German tourists who had come into the area. He slipped and fell, injuring himself in the process and ended up in the water.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.15pm. They tried to revive the man but all attempts failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Westpac helicopter and emergency service crews were called to attend the incident.
Police are investigating the circumstances that surround the man's death.
