Waiting for warmer temperatures before they come out and play, hundreds of Monarch Butterflies are seeking shelter on the branches of trees in Christchurch parks.
A nature play group watched as the odd one fluttered away from the trees in Woodham Park, in the suburb of Linwood.
The butterflies are known to seek shelter in parks and gardens when colder temperatures hit.
Swarms of Monarch Butterflies have been spotted in several areas, including Redwood Park by the tennis courts, the tall trees near the river in the Pioneer Recreation Centre playground and Abberley Park.
