Three men have appeared in Auckland District Court charged in connection with the import of 200 kilograms of ephedrine, the main ingredient in P.
Two men aged 32 and one aged 34 were granted interim name suppression until their next appearance on June 7.
Each charge is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The men, from central Auckland and Flatbush, were charged with possession of a class B drug for supply. Two were charged with importing the drug.
The ephedrine was found in cavities in a shipment of paper from China a month ago and police and Customs carried out raids on nine addresses throughout Auckland yesterday.
The seizure is twice the size of the previous largest ephedrine seizure in New Zealand.
It would have been enough to make 150kg of P with a street value of $150 million.
