Organisers of today's Christchurch marathon are confident they'll be able to avoid the traffic headaches of last year's event.
Thousands of runners will head off from Cathedral Square at 8am, with several key roads set to remain closed until 2pm.
Race Director Chris Cox is confident there won't be a repeat of the last marathon, where people were cut off from getting to hospital.
"We've reconfigured the course so that we can lift the traffic management and road closures around the hospital by 10am, so I'm very confident we won't be having the problems that we had last year."
Christchurch City Council says there'll still be some congestion during the marathon due to road closures, and people should consider walking or biking instead where possible.
