A new member's Bill which hopes to tackle the problem of window washers on the streets has the support of police and the Auckland Council.
Under the proposed change, window washers would be slapped with a $150 fine for being a safety hazard.
Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross says writing the Bill has been a joint effort.
"There's a real will and desire by the police to do something about this, but Parliament hasn't yet given them the ability to do it."
Mr Ross says the council is trying to tackle the problem, but says their by-law is toothless.
"The way to tackle window washers is to give the police the ability to fine them," he says.
"My member's Bill would allow the police, once it's passed, to be able to fine window washers on the spot, as often as they need to."
The current system takes eight to 10 weeks to get through the court system.
