Political activist John Minto has announced he's running for the Christchurch mayoralty.
Mr Minto stood for the Auckland mayoralty in 2013.
He is being put forward by the group Keep Our Assets (KOA). It wants Christchurch City Council to stop selling assets, including the proposed imminent sale of City Care.
Mr Minto says he wants a "people-orientated" Christchurch.
He is offering to take a pay cut if he becomes mayor from 180k to 160k and is promising stiff rate increases in vacant commercial land in the central city.
Mr Minto came to prominence protesting against the 1981 Springbok rugby tour.
Local body elections take place in October.
