Moko's killer lodges appeal

The woman responsible for the death of Moko Rangitoheriri has lodged an appeal.

The documents for Tania Shailer, 26, were lodged at the Court of Appeal this week, the court has confirmed.

Shailer and David Haerewa abused and neglected the three-year-old for two months before his death in August last year. They pleaded guily to manslaughter and were sentenced to 17 years in prison in June.

Moko was put into Shailer and Haerewa's care and they were supposed to be looking after him while his mother Nicola Dally-Paki was at Starship Hospital caring for another of her children.

Shailer's lawyer Ron Mansfield could not be reached immediately for comment.

The grounds for the appeal have not been specified by the court.

Haerewa has not applied for any appeal.
