An English newspaper is worried that Mt Doom, the giant volcano located in the land of Mordor, may erupt.

The Express says they are concerned after the mountain, used by the Dark Lord Sauron to forge the One Ring, saw temperatures rise in recent weeks.

"Tourists and hikers have been warned to stay well away from Mount Doom," they say.

"Fearful scientists have raised its status to 'heightened unrest' as they warn people not to get too close."

Mt Doom was portrayed by Mount Ngauruhoe in the well-known The Lord of the Rings movie series -- and it appears the Express has confused this mountain with Mt Ruapehu, where danger levels have risen as it shows signs of life.

The Wise are studying the portents, and urge vigilance against the return of the forces of Darkness.

"Taken together these data now indicate more volcanic unrest" warns volcanologist Geoff Kilgour.

"The increased gas output coupled with high heat flow and volcanic tremor imply a higher likelihood of activity."

There are unconfirmed reports this volcanic action may be linked to Sir Peter Jackson, allegedly on a mission to recreate, in full scale, the mountains of Thangorodrim.

It has been reported on the Dim-Post blog that Sir Peter is preparing to film a 95 hour adaptation of the J.R.R Tolkien's The Silmarillion -- in which Morgoth's ancient fortress of Angband is sure to feature.

We can only hope this represents normal volcanic action, and not the emergence of another Dark Lord.
