Shocking footage has emerged of a cow being clamped by the hips while her dead calf lies metres away.
The video, filmed at a Waikato farm by Farmwatch, shows the cow suspended from a tractor by "hip clamps" for around 30 minutes.
Hip clamps are legal and are used to support cows that can't get up, but shouldn't be on for more than 10 minutes and should be used with padding.
Farmwatch say the footage was reported to MPI last year but say it has failed to reprimand the farmer.
"This is another example in a continual patter of failure of MPI to perform their duty to protect animals and their welfare," says spokesperson for Farmwatch John Darroch.
