Susan Elizabeth Mouat has been charged with the death of her husband, Bruce Mouat, five years after the coroner originally ruled his death was an accident.

She has pleaded not guilty to the charge of manslaughter.

Bruce Mouat died in July 2011 after a night of heavy drinking in Hawera, Taranaki. It was originally believed he fell down stairs.

In 2012, Coroner Tim Scott said his death was the result of a blunt force head injury. Police had initially investigated his death as a possible homicide.

Bruce Mouat was a keen mountaineer and leader of the Taranaki Alpine and Cliff Rescue team.

Susan Mouat's trial will be held in September next year.
