Restaurants in Auckland have been booked out for months, and the city's biggest landmark is rigged and ready to mark the new year with a bang.
The stage has been set on Auckland's highest point, and the world will be watching when the clock strikes 12.
"This is the iconic first show in the world so everyone's gonna judge Auckland, and then Sydney, London Paris, Dubai - all of those come after us. So we're leading the way.
"This is the iconic first show in the world," says Robert McDermott of Pyrostar International. "Everyone's gonna judge Auckland, and then Sydney, London Paris, Dubai - all of those come after us. So we're leading the way."
More than 500kg of fireworks have been laid up to 280m up the Sky Tower.
For the team at Pyrostar International, it's the climax of work that began in June - months of preparation for a show that will be over in minutes.
But they say it'll be worth the effort.
"Coming up here on an icon of the city that's going to be seen worldwide, SkyCity's the place to be on New Year's Eve because it's the first in the world," says Mr McDermott.
While the fireworks show will be free for all in Auckland, a seat at a table is harder to come by. Many top restaurants are already booked out - and those that aren't are filling up fast.
"Taking some walk-ins, but tables at peak times have been booked out for months," says Andrew Brown of Amano.
Others will be dancing the New Year in at Auckland's inaugural Wondergarden festival at Silo Park, with homegrown talents like the Phoenix Foundation, Anika Moa and Liam Finn.
And at midnight, they'll have the best seat in the house as Auckland's icon kicks off the new year party for the world.
