Fishers are relieved a temporary ban of the rock lobster fishery on Kaikoura's East Coast is being lifted next week.

The $23 million industry remains in good shape, despite the seabed lifting more than six metres in some areas.

Fishing has been banned since the quake a month ago, with $2 million spent on research to give it all the all-clear.

Trevor Burkhart from Burkhart Fisheries says it'll be business as usual from Tuesday onwards, but the whole industry has banded together to get through the last month.

"The best in people comes out, and the way to deal with it is actually to help your neighbour and stop just thinking about yourself," he told Newshub.

"By going and helping other people out, it's not so bad on yourself."

Mr Burkhart says it's been a tough month, but they've made do.

"People have stuck together, even competitors, so everyone is helping one another - which is great".

Mr Burkhart says they've been monitoring the crayfish population and it hasn't been impacted by the quake.
