Customs is taking advantage of new technology to help catch meth smugglers and keep pests away from New Zealand shores.
Data analysts from Customs, the Ministry of Primary Industries, and Immigration NZ have teamed up to gain new insights into border risk through data sharing and comparing patterns.
Group manager at Customs Jamie Bamford says it's the first time they've had access to these kinds of tools.
Mr Bamford says they'll be able to go through five years of data and find the trends in drug smuggling.
"We think we can get a much richer picture; the ability for us to share expertise, share data scientists and share understanding will really enhance our capabilities.
"This information makes risk assessment of goods and travellers more accurate."
