A Christchurch man has taken his love of the f**king news seriously this week by getting a huge tattoo of Patrick Gower on his leg.
Caleb Julian now has a caricature of Newshub's political editor etched permanently into his calf, with the slogan "I am the f**king news".
Tattooist Josh D posted a photo of his work to Instagram, captioning it "Paddy Gower! The face of our nation and a God among men. He IS the f**king news."
Josh D said the tattoo was one of the first caricatures of any person he has done, inspired by his friend's love for Gower.
After seeing the design, Mr Julian immediately gave Josh D the go-ahead to tattoo it on his calf. The full tat was completed on Friday.
"Life's too short to be square isn't it?" said Mr Julian, when Newshub asked him why.
The tattoo's been a hit with the public, with people laughing and asking questions about it. It's also been a hit on social media, with one person commenting: "This is hands down the best tattoo I've seen in my life."
Josh D said his tattoos were mostly one-offs, "but if someone really likes Patrick Gower, I'm sure we could come up with a new one for them".
He hopes Gower can see the funny side, as he doesn't want to offend the NZ-famous journalist.
"I should have asked his permission before tattooing his face on a leg, I guess."
Mr Julian says after going through three hours of "intense pain", Gower "better be grateful".
He says the tattoo is an improvement on a caricature of Peter Griffin from Family Guy he has on his upper arm, which is the "world's worst tattoo".
"People have to stare at it for a long time to figure out what it is. It's absolutely atrocious".
