The boss of one of the men seriously injured in yesterday's skydiving accident in Queenstown says he is one of the most experienced sky divers in the world.

Sasa Jojic and a colleague, both staff members from NZONE Skydive, crash-landed at high speed near Drift Bay around 7:45am on Saturday.

Initial reports suggested the pair hit the ground at a speed of about 100kmh, a police spokeswoman said.

They're now in a serious but stable condition in Dunedin Hospital.

Mr Jojic, originally from Serbia, spent five years on his country's national skydiving team and was twice Yugoslavian champion. He is also known for his sky surfing.

Mr Jojic joined NZONE in 1997 and with more than 29,000 jumps to his name, is the company's most senior instructor.
