Heavy rain is pouring down on Auckland and the Coromandel, destroying properties and killing livestock.
Farmers are distraught as they watch their animals being swept away by the flood waters.
In one video shot by Dave Poole, horses can be seen trapped by a vast lake of flood waters in Clevedon, in Franklin, south Auckland.
As the murky-brown water rises around them, they make a desperate attempt to escape with their lives.
In another clip filmed by Bree Winters, the video shows a dozen horses running through flooded paddocks to high ground.
Neighbour Matt Broughton says the horses were up to their stomachs in water, and he and a neighbour had to call them up to high ground.
Fortunately, they all seem to have survived. However other cows and sheep were not so lucky, with many swept away in the flooding.
