Devastating flooding in Bay of Plenty town Edgecumbe has left many people wondering how they can help.
Streets were turned to rivers on Thursday when the Rangitaiki River broke through the stopbank at College Rd, forcing 1600 people to evacuate.
It's prompted some community groups to start up their own funding and support pages for those who want to pitch in.
The Whakatane District Council has set up a Givealittle page, which has already raised over $11,000. The proceeds will go towards the big clean-up effort which is expected to take months.
A Facebook page has also been created allowing people to drop off goods for families in need.
For owners missing their beloved pets, another lost and found Facebook page has gone up.
Some banks are also lending some relief to their flood-affected customers:
ANZ
ANZ is providing a financial relief package which includes extra overdraft facilities, waiving fees associated with business and home loans and access to deposits without the usual stand-down period.
Westpac
Westpac is offering temporary measures including extra overdraft facilities, putting loan payments on hold for three months - although interest would still be charged - and deferring payment of business credit cards.
Kiwibank
Kiwibank are offering access to term deposits with no break fees, simplified application for hardship assistance and a free month overdraft.
