Auckland traffic is at its worst today with video showing cars at a standstill through the central city.
Police closed roads while they negotiated with a young woman who was on a bridge on Grafton Road above Auckland's Southern Motorway.
The woman is now safe.
The roads are being reopened but a heavy backlog of traffic stretches for kilometres down the northbound lanes.
All lanes heading south are clear.
Aucklanders had been advised to finish work early to beat the traffic that's expected for the World Masters Games opening ceremony, with 25,000 athletes from across the world competing.
Police now say to expect a very slow journey regardless this afternoon.
