Supermarket giant New World has issued a warning to its Facebook followers about a scam page set up under the same name, which is fooling followers into entering fake competitions.

'New World New Zealand', which has almost 2500 likes and the same profile picture as the verified New World Facebook account, is running competitions online allegedly awarding winners prizes from the major supermarket chain.

The real New World account posted a "SCAM ALERT" on their Facebook page on Tuesday, saying that it appeared they had "a look-a-like".

"You may have noticed a page by the name of New World New Zealand floating around Facebook. This is in no way associated with New World and we ask that you do not engage with the page."

The latest competition by the fake page, phrased in fairly broken English, offered a $3000 New World gift card for those that liked the photo and commented underneath. The photo garnered over 7.5 thousand likes, 8000 comments and over 5500 shares.
