Police are seeking to retry convicted rapist Malcolm Rewa for the murder of Susan Burdett.
Two juries were unable to decide whether Rewa murdered Burdett in 1992.
Teina Pora was originally convicted of the murder, but that conviction has since been quashed.
However Rewa's former lawyer Barry Hart is convinced Rewa will not get a fair trial.
Tim Mckinnel worked as the private investigator on Teina Pora's case and Senior Defence Barrister Stephen Bonnar both spoke to Duncan Garner.
