The demolition of Christchurch's Lancaster Park is in full swing, literally, with 30,000 seats flying down a flying fox as workers dismantle the iconic sports ground.
Over the years those seats would have seen many historic sporting triumphs and had a front row seat to spine tingling concerts from global superstars such as U2, Dire Straits and Bon Jovi.
Around 21,500 of the stadium's 30,000 seats are expected to be rehoused after community and sporting groups and individuals expressed interest in taking a part of the stadium home.
The Christchurch City Council and Vbase, owners of the park, is hoping to salvage or recycle as much of the material from the deconstruction as possible.
Each seat is valued at $10 which is expected to bring in at least $300,000 from the seats alone.
Full deconstruction will begin in December and is expected to take at least a year to complete.
