The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has announced it's boosting its presence in Afghanistan with the addition of three personnel.

Defence Minister Mark Mitchell made the announcement on Friday, reiterating New Zealand's commitment to the international community's objective in the region.

"A deteriorating security situation has prompted the international community to refocus its efforts. Countries around the globe are making decisions to increase contributions to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorist organisations," he said in a statement.

"New Zealand will continue to stand alongside our partners in supporting stability in Afghanistan and countering the threat of international terrorism."

The three new personnel will join the 10 NZDF members already on the ground.

Two will deploy to positions at the Mission Headquarters in the country's capital, Kabul, while the other will be in a physical training instructor role.
