A Greytown teacher who repeatedly swore during class and fired insults at her students has now been struck off the teaching register.

A series of complaints saw Patricia Webster, who taught at Kuranui College between 2004 and 2016, have her registration cancelled by the Education Council earlier this year.

During her 12 years at the school, Ms Webster was reported for expletive-laden outbursts on six occasions - offences that the council deemed "lowered the reputation and good standing of the teaching profession" and "amounted to serious misconduct".

On one occasion in November 2011, Ms Webster was alleged to have told a group of students during a vocal session that if they were going to refuse to sing "you can f**k off back to class", or words to that effect.

A year earlier, in September 2010, she was reported for occasionally referring to her students as "wankers" or "sluts" - although no formal action was taken on that matter.

The complaints continued in 2012, with parents protesting that Ms Webster was unfairly treating their son, who she prevented from running technical support despite him helping fundraise for new sound equipment.

Those complaints resulted in a formal disciplinary process which later concluded that she had engaged in "unprofessional and highly inappropriate" interactions with the student.

Ms Webster was placed in a personal guidance programme as a result of the myriad grievances the school had with her - and by July 2013, the school was satisfied that she had learnt from her previous errors.

However in 2014, she was given her final warning after an angry outburst that saw her tell students to "shut the f**k up", or a variation of the phrase, among other unprofessional phrases.

Other instances of misconduct followed, in which Ms Webster allegedly told a student he was a "prick" and told him she wanted "to punch [him] in the face", and swore again after a guitar fell to the ground during her class.

She also was said to have told a Year 9 student's classmates that he was a poor student and made disparaging comments about his musical instrument ability following a performance, before later calling him a "dick" to the rest of the class.

After the complaints - and failing to appear in front of the Tribunal - Ms Webster was found to be guilty of serious misconduct and was struck off the register.

She was also asked to pay $4733 to cover the costs of the Tribunal..
