A large fire at a multi-storey building in Wellington's CBD has been contained after sending huge plumes of smoke into the sky.
The fire broke out in the machine room on the top floor of the 14-storey building on the corner of Willeston Street and Victoria Street.
Emergency services were called out to the building at about 8:48am, and are still at the scene.
The building has been evacuated and police say there are no reported injuries or people unaccounted for.
There are cordons in place and people are asked to avoid the area around Hunter and Willeston Streets.
