Auckland mayor Phil Goff has revealed the worst gift he ever received as foreign minister.
Mr Goff told The AM Show he was gifted a model of Bethlehem and mother of pearl by then Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
"It was the most hideous thing," he said.
"My wife had very clear instructions - 'when you come back from Wellington, leave all that rubbish there behind you,' and I did."
This comes after United States President Donald Trump was given 83 gifts by Saudi Arabia including a portrait of himself, a robe lined with cheetah fur, and multiple swords and daggers.
Mr Goff was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from December 1999 until October 2005.
