The results are in for how different Auckland suburbs measure up in terms of car break-ins, and it's not the suburbs might you expect.

Crime statistics from Policedata.nz have revealed what areas have the highest number of car break-ins and thefts.

The area with the highest number of car break-ins from May 2017- July 2017 was Maungawhau, spanning between Sandringham Road and St Andrews Road to the north of Balmoral Road. 

Top twenty suburbs for car break-ins:

  2. Auckland Central West (Nelson St to Victoria Park) 67
  3. Three Kings - 67
  4. Auckland Central East (Queen Street to Symonds Street) - 64
  5. Balmoral - 62
  6. Epsom Central (Epsom Avenue to Greenlane West) - 59
  7. Mt Eden North (View Road to Boston Road) - 56
  8. Manukau Central - 48
  9. Mangere South (Kirkbride Road to Bader Drive) - 40
  10. Parnell West (Stanley Street/The Strand to Gladstone Road) - 35
  11. Mt Eden East (Henley Road to the University of Auckland Epsom Campus) - 34
  12. Kingsland - 32
  13. One Tree Hill Central (Cornwall Park and surrounds) - 30
  14. Albany - 29
  15. Mt Wellington South (Penrose Road to Saleyards Road) - 28
  16. Auckland Harbourside (Wynyard Quarter to the end of Quay Street) - 27
  17. Point Chevalier East (Pt Chevalier Road to Meola Creek) - 27

No areas were free of break-ins for the three month period, however 40 suburbs only had one vehicle break-in, including Matakana, Sunnyhills, Paremoremo East and Bucklands Beach South.
