A police search is underway after two planes flying over Christchurch were targeted by laser strikes.
Police received reports of a laser strike on a light plane in Linwood at 9:15pm on Tuesday night.
It's the second time in two days an aircraft has been struck by a laser there. The other incident occurred at 8:30pm on Monday night.
Police say they are now in the process of searching for the person or people responsible.
"Police are continuing to make enquiries into the incident," a police spokesperson says.
"All reports of laser strikes are treated very seriously, due to the potential for serious injury and harm, and there are severe penalties."
