A jury has been told a woman who was abducted and dumped at an Auckland quarry woke up covered in blood, with a masked man standing over her holding a baseball bat.
It's alleged Colin Mitchell picked the woman up in his car in the city last February, and bashed her with the intent of sexually violating her at the quarry in Riverhead 25 kilometres away.
Crown prosecutor Kirsten Lummis told the jury there's a hidden side to the 59-year-old accused.
"Mr Mitchell has a dark, sinister side. A side that only comes out in the black of night," she said.
Mr Mitchell's car and DNA led to his arrest. However the defence maintains the police got the wrong man.
