There are grave concerns for the health of a blind alpaca left alone by the theft of his guide and brother.
Bambi has been left standing alone in his Dairy Flat paddock since March 12, when his brother Charisma was whisked away overnight.
Now one alpaca breeder says Bambi's plight alone on his hill may be dangerous to his health.
"Alpacas are very much herd animals and they do not like being alone. It just stresses them out and, in fact, some have died from the stress if it," Kathy Rademacher of Kaipara Pines Alpacas told Stuff.
"It will be really stressful for him to be by himself, let alone the fact he is blind. That's why we are kind of in a hurry to get in touch with these people so we can do something to alleviate his problem."
Ms Rademacher has reached out to Bambi's owners and offered a couple of her own young alpacas to keep Bambi company through these trying times.
Local police told Stuff they've received a plenty of reports of possible sightings of Charisma across New Zealand but do not have any leads yet.
