A New Plymouth Boys' High School student has died from meningococcal disease.
The student died on Saturday March 10.
The Taranaki District Health Board has stressed that there is no increased risk to the community, even to those in the same classes as the late student.
The Board said it was advising the school to ensure the safety of staff and students.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Greg Simmons urges people to be vigilant for signs and symptoms of the disease.
He says meningococcal can progress very quickly, and may initially appear as a flu-like illness.
