A man has been arrested after running naked through a tourist area in Rotorua and attempting to swim to Mokoia Island.
A police spokesperson told Newshub they were alerted to the man running naked through the Mana Adventures area at 12:27pm on Sunday.
The man then jumped into Lake Rotorua and began to swim away from the shore, aiming for Mokoia Island.
The Coastguard was enlisted to help and a police Search and Rescue Unit was put on standby in case it was needed.
After being followed for some time the man was eventually brought to shore by the Coastguard and arrested by waiting police.
He was charged with resisting police and disorderly conduct, but was later released without charge.
