A moderate earthquake has struck near Ruatoria on the east coast of the North Island.
The quake was centred approximately 10km southwest of Ruatoria and was 30km deep.
Despite the moderate shaking it was not felt by many people. Only 16 people reported to Geonet they felt the shaking.
Geonet initially said the earthquake measured 4.0, but it was later upgraded to 4.7.
