One person has been killed during a police pursuit in New Plymouth early on Monday.
Officers tried to pull the driver over just after 12am for speeding.
The motorist rammed the police vehicle - making it undrivable - and left the scene.
The driver of the fleeing car crashed into a power pole on Tarahua Rd minutes later.
The motorist died at the scene when power lines fell onto the vehicle.
