A suspected robber has found out the hard way it's not that easy to outrun a police dog.

Police say three teens entered a dairy in Carterton at about 9:30am on Saturday, threatened the worker with a knife, and got away with cash and cigarettes in a stolen car.

Police soon tracked the trio to bushland. Two were arrested without incident, but the third tried to make a getaway on foot.

"He couldn't, and is tonight in the cells with his partners in crime," police said on Saturday night.

The three, aged 16, 17 and 19, have been charged with aggravated robbery and other offences.

"Don't try to outrun police dogs," police said.
