Two men arrested over Māngere fatal shooting

Two men have been charged over the alleged shooting murder of Epalahame Tu'uheava in south Auckland last week.

The 28-year-old was found dead on Greenwood Road in Mangere. Police say he was shot at least once in the head.

His wife Mele, also known as Yolanda, was found lying next to him. She had allegedly been shot in the upper body and is still being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds.

Police say two south Auckland men, aged 24 and 30, have been charged with murder and attempted murder.

The men appeared in Manukau District Court on Friday afternoon and have both been granted interim name suppression.

They have been remanded in custody and will next appear in the High Court on May 30.

"This was a violent incident that shocked the community and we hope the arrests today will provide some reassurance to the surviving victim, the families affected, as well as the wider public," Detective Inspector Tofilau Faa Vaaelua said in a statement.

"Our investigation remains ongoing and further enquiries will continue to be made in relation to this incident."

Epalahame's family have told Newshub he grew up in a good Christian family. They say they were shocked to learn he become involved in a gang while living in Australia in recent years.

Epalahame and his wife returned to New Zealand last year and were living in Manurewa. They have a young son.

Police haven't said if the incident was gang related.
