A broken water pipe has caused an impressive "geyser" of water in west Auckland.
Resident Geoff Greenfield noticed the spout on Rosebank Rd in Avondale around 10am on Saturday while out with his children.
He told Newshub initially the children thought it was a geyser from a volcano, as they had recently learnt about Yellowstone National Park.
"[I] was impressed with the sheer volume of water coming out of the ground, the sound was really loud. We stopped and hopped out so the two boys would be able to see it better and took the footage," he said.
"[It was] really an amazing sight to see. On returning home 45 minutes later, the spout was still going. There is a river of water flowing down between two buildings north of the waterspout."
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson told Newshub they were not called out to attend the geyser.
Watercare said it was contacted about a small 20mm burst pipe at 9:20am and repairs were completed at 1:45pm.
