He suffered injuries to his face and arms and is now recovering at home after the horrific attack, The Otago Daily Times reports.
The two dogs were put down on by vets on Friday, the Southland District Council says.
The owners of the dogs have been cooperative during this process and voluntarily surrendered the dogs, the council says.
The council is yet to decide if they will take further action under the Dog Control Act as information is still being gather about the attack, group manager environmental services Bruce Halligan said.
