A 12-year-old boy has died at a primary school in Tokomaru Bay.
It's reported the Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tokomaru pupil suffered a cardiac arrest.
Two fire appliances, a helicopter and St John Ambulance attended the incident just after 11am on Monday morning.
The boy's death has been referred to the Coroner and police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tokomaru is a small school about 90km north of Gisborne.
Support is being offered to students affected by the tragedy.
