Paul Goulding isn't much of an animal lover, but that doesn't matter to his new best friend - a very persistent duck.
The Te Kuiti man formed an unlikely bond with Pete several weeks ago when the paradise shelduck laid eyes on him and decided he was the one.
Since then, the two have been inseparable, with Pete even flying alongside his human pal as he drives.
Mr Goulding says he wasn't too keen on the friendship at first and tried to get rid of Pete, but the duck enjoyed his "tough love" and keeps coming back.
"I don't know what it is, he's quite protective over me," he told The Project.
"If anyone else comes near me, particularly women, he has a go at them."
