The Napier Girls' High School ball has been cancelled just hours before it was due to start, due to a health and safety threat.
Principal Dawn Ackroyd advised students earlier this afternoon the ball was cancelled due to "health and safety concerns" flagged by police. They were asked not to turn up at the venue.
"Police have been actively investigating the threat received and have been working closely with the school," police said in a statement.
Police said it would not disclose the nature of the threat as it is "the subject of an ongoing investigation".
Just last month, the Wellington Girls College ball was cancelled on the day due to a bomb scare after a suspicious package was found.
It was later found to be harmless.
