A second person has died at Muriwai Beach after being swept off the rocks by a wave.
Police reported they were called to the west Auckland beach at around 2pm on Monday afternoon and recovered both people from the water.

Earlier, they confirmed one person did not survive the ordeal. The other was believed to be being transported to hospital, but has since died as well.
Police remain at the scene of the incident, and have now confirmed the two who died were a male and a female.
The deaths have now been referred to the Coroner.
