A driver who hit and killed a motorcyclist was sending a text message at the time.
Judy Rita McGirr was driving along Queen Elizabeth II Dr in Christchurch in February when she drifted into the wrong lane, Christchurch Court News reports.
Tyrone Tiatoa was on a motorcycle coming the other way, and tried to take evasive action but lost control, sliding into the front of McGirr's car.
McGirr, 62, initially said she was the one trying to take evasive action after the bike went into her lane, Christchurch Court News reports, but police found a phone in her car - she had been texting at the time.

They said the crash also happened in the motorcyclist's eastbound lane - she was driving west.
McGirr admitted on Friday to a charge of careless driving causing death, and was remanded for sentencing in September.
Drivers using a phone face fines up to $80 and 20 demerit points.
