A popular Palmerston North swimming pool has been closed temporarily after threats surfaced online that 1080 had been put in it.
Posts on social media said pellets the poison had been left in Freyberg Pool and other locations around the city, Stuff reports.
The pool was closed, but the pools were later tested and declared safe for public use again, according to a post on the centre's Facebook page.
Council officials are working with police to investigate the threat. Anybody who sees suspicious substances in parks or near walkways is asked to contact the council on (06) 356 8199.
Pellets of 1080 are either green or blue in colour.
