Greens co-leader James Shaw has called Minister for Women Julie Anne Genter's decision to bike to hospital to give birth "very on brand" at the party's annual conference on Sunday.
Ms Genter, who is 42 weeks pregnant, announced on Instagram this morning that she had given up the car to her "support crew" and biked to have her birth induced at Auckland Hospital.
Meanwhile in Palmerston North, the Green Party was holding its Annual General Meeting, with Mr Shaw saying he was very proud of Ms Genter and his party's support for her.
"[I'm] proud to be living in a country where two members of the country's executive are able to have children as part of their job," he said.
It follows the birth of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's daughter Neve on June 21, also at Auckland Hospital.
The news, however, may have overshadowed the announcement from Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage of a new programme of work aimed at cutting waste.
The work will look at expanding waste disposal levies to more landfills, and a potential increase to the levy.
Ms Genter, who is also the Associate Minister of Transport and Health, stopped flying from mid-July and has been based in Auckland since, in anticipation of the birth.
She added a photo to Instagram on August 10 with the hashtag #stillwaiting.
Mr Shaw will take on her transport and health portfolios, while Ms Sage becomes takes on the role of Acting Minister for Women.
