A man has appeared in the North Shore District Court in relation to the death of a toddler in Northland last night.
The 30-year-old man has been charged with assault on a child.
The two-year-old died on Wednesday evening at a property in Mangawhai. Police were called to the address at around 8:15pm, after the toddler died.
The man has been granted interim name suppression, along with the victim.
Police are not ruling out the possibility of adding or upgrading charges.
The man will reappear in the North Shore District Court next month, where a plea is expected to be entered.
