The 29-year-old Australian climber found alive on Mt Aspiring will be evacuated on Friday if the weather improves.
Search and Rescue officer Tracey Brickels says the team who found the army captain stayed with him overnight.
"When they got there they have contacted the helicopters and advised that he's in good health, apart from some slight frost bite," she said.
The man was alone for seven days, but has now been given more supplies following the arrival of the Search and Rescue team.
"They've taken tents and sleeping bags, warm food and dry clothes for him and medical equipment," Ms Brickels said.
The group looking for the man was prepared for the worst and Ms Brickels says he's lucky he was found.
"It's essential to take some form of communication i.e. a locator beacon or as this climber did a SPOT (GPS tracking) device," she said.
