We all love the sights and sounds of the countryside, but the residents of one Auckland suburb say they're about to crack if something isn't done soon about a rogue rooster and his early-morning wake-up calls.
Avondale resident Tom Knowles posted his frustration to a community Facebook page. He told The Project he's hit rock bottom after finding himself outside, in his underwear at 4am, trying to silence the chook by throwing grapes at it.
Neighbours say they've been complaining to Auckland Council since last year, but the council says it's the responsibility of the owner, whoever that is, and that if it has no owner the rooster isn't covered by animal management bylaws.
The Project contacted the SPCA, but it says it only steps in if a bird is sick, and says the rooster is the council's problem.
With no one able to hatch a plan, what are we going to do about this noisy cock?
