GoPro footage has been released of paramedics running to save a Kiwi 12-year-old girl attacked by a shark in a popular Queensland holiday spot.
The girl, who has not been named, was on holiday in Australia with her father and sister when the shark attacked on Thursday afternoon.
She was bitten on the upper thigh and the shark severed her femoral artery, leading to massive blood loss. She was given 1.5 litres of blood on the way to hospital.
The girl went into emergency surgery overnight with her father by her side, but is still listed as in a critical condition.
Video taken by paramedics shows an emergency helicopter flying across an idyllic beach before landing in front of a small group, with the girl lying on the ground.
It took the paramedics 20 minutes to treat her on the beach before she was rushed to hospital.
Her injuries have been described as "absolutely horrific" by the Cairns Post.
"As you can imagine they're fairly large wounds with artery and bones, vessels, large haemorrhage," Queensland Ambulance Service Mackay operations manager Tracey Eastwick said.
"Her status at the moment could be called critical until further information is released."
